It's All About the Details

I have so many people who write poetry and give me their books. Some think the quantity of poems  offered in the book are the big selling pitch. They think the more poems they have, the better the poet they are. That is not always the case. A great poetry book is similar to a great CD. There is variety, and not too many songs that sound alike.  I have Maya Angelou's book And Still I Rise. And Still I Rise has thirty poems in it. Two of her most well-known poems Phenomenal Woman and Still I Rise are in the book. Those two could be a book by themselvesGreat poems, like great love, music and sex take time. None of the three sound ever be rushed. Remember, it's all in the details.
